I saw on the news this morning a story about a Fatal Detroit Car Accident on the Southfield Freeway on Sunday, August 2nd. According to Michigan State Police, a car allegedly travelling at a high rate of speed hit another vehicle causing the first vehicle to roll and burst into flames. The passenger of the car was seriously injured and the driver was killed. The passenger of the car they hit suffered minor injuries. Police are still investigating this accident.

I  am very sorry to hear about this tragic auto accident and wish the passenger the fullest and speediest recovery possible.

Our Michigan car accident lawyers advise accident victims of their legal rights.  For this type of auto accident in Michigan, the passenger can submit a claim for Michigan No-Fault insurance benefits.  No-Fault benefits will cover  medical expenses, lost wages, attendant care, replacement services, and other benefits related to injuries suffered in the accident.  The injured party can claim these benefits even if he or she did not have a Michigan automobile insurance policy.

In addition, the car accident injury victim may also have claims for personal injuries against the  driver determined to be at fault in this auto accident.  The insurance company for the negligent driver typically pays a settlement for this type of case. In this lawsuit, the injured victim can claim damages and compensation for the injuries suffered in the accident.  The insurance company for the negligent driver typically pays a settlement for this type of car accident case.

I saw on the news today a story about a Detroit Fire Truck Accident that occurred on July 21st at the corner of Lawndale and Vernor. According to eyewitnesses, the fire truck allegedly on an emergency run when it lost control and rammed into two vehicles that pulled over to let the fire truck pass.

Surveillance video and other witnesses allege that the fire truck was travelling at too high a rate of speed when it tried to take a curve in the road and lost control. The driver of one vehicle was uninjured but the driver and passenger of the other vehicle had to be taken to the hospital with unknown possibly serious injuries. The accident is under investigation at this time.

Detroit Car Accident Reports

For any Detroit car accident or motor vehicle accident, it is necessary to obtain a traffic crash report from the police department.  These are required by insurance companies for making both property damage claims and personal injury claims.

It usally takes a few days after a Detroit accident to be available to the public, but a report can be obtained from:

Detroit Police Department
1300 Beaubien
Detroit, MI 48226
(313) 596-1800
Fax: (313) 596-6818

There is a fee for obtaining the report.  Checks should be made payable to “City of Detroit.”  We regularly obtain these for our Detroit car accident clients and pay all associated fees.
