Detroit Hit & Run Fatality

I read tragic story today about a Detroit Hit & Run Fatality that involved a 13-year-old victim and was caught on a surveillance video. According to Detroit Police, the surveillance video allegedly shows the 13-year-old boy walking near Grand River and Mettetal when he was struck by a white mini-van that drove off without stopping. The boy was taken to Children’s Hospital with serious injuries and died at the hospital from significant brain damage.

My sincerest condolences go out to the family of the boy for this tragic loss.

Michigan car accident victims have a number of legal rights.  For this type of accident, the family members may be able to make a claim for Survivor Loss Benefits.  This can include payment of medical expenses, funeral expenses, lost wages, and loss of other services.  If the driver is not found and a member of the household had uninsured motorist coverage , they can make a claim for wrongful death.

Accident victims should not speak with the insurance adjuster for the victim before consulting with an attorney.

Detroit Car Accident Reports

Detroit Car Accidents

Our Detroit accident lawyers represent clients who have been injured in a car accident, motorcycle accident, bus accident, truck accident, or pedestrian accident in the City of Detroit.

Also known as “The Motor City,” Detroit has a number of major highway and city streets in its jurisdiction.  As a result, a great number of auto accidents occur within the Detroit city limits.

Detroit Car Accident Reports

For any Detroit car accident or motor vehicle accident, it is necessary to obtain a traffic crash report from the police department.  These are required by insurance companies for making both property damage claims and personal injury claims.

It usally takes a few days after a Detroit accident to be available to the public, but a report can be obtained from:

Detroit Police Department
1300 Beaubien
Detroit, MI 48226
(313) 596-1800
Fax: (313) 596-6818

There is a fee for obtaining the report.  Checks should be made payable to “City of Detroit.”  We regularly obtain these for our Detroit car accident clients and pay all associated fees.

If your accident was investigated by the Michigan State Police, the report must be ordered directly from that agency.  You can download the Michigan State Police Form here and submit it directly to that agency to obtain your report.
