Fatal Detroit I-75 Hit and Run Accident

There was a story in the paper today about a pedestrian killed in a fatal Detroit I-75 hit and run accident on January 29th. According to the Michigan State Police, a man was walking on the shoulder of I-75, south of I-94, when he was struck  by a vehicle that did not stop for the accident. The pedestrian was taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital where he died from his serious injuries. Police are still investigating this accident and ask that anyone with information contact the Detroit post at 313-456-6600.

I am very sorry to hear about this tragic accident and offer the family of the deceased pedestrian my most sincere condolences on their loss.

Our Detroit car accident lawyers advise accident victims of their legal rights. For this type of auto accident in Michigan, the family members of the deceased pedestrian may be able to make a claim for Survivor Loss Benefits. This can include payment of funeral expenses, lost wages, and loss of other services.

If the driver’s identity is not discovered, the injured victims still have rights under the law. They may be able to file an uninsured motorists claim against their own insurance policy or another insurance policy to receive the No-Fault Benefits.

In addition, the injury victims may be able to file a lawsuit against the persons determined to be at fault in auto accident. The insurance company for the driver must still cover any injuries. In this lawsuit, the injured victim can claim damages and compensation for the injuries suffered in the accident. The insurance company for the negligent driver typically pays a settlement for this type of case.

Also, the family members of the deceased pedestrian may have a claim for a Michigan wrongful death lawsuit against the driver that police determine was negligent and caused this accident. At the very least, the surviving family and injured parties should hire the best possible lawyer to look into these possibilities.

An experienced Michigan car accident lawyer can assist the victims with this type of claim. Accident victims should not speak with the insurance adjuster for the negligent driver before consulting with an attorney.

Detroit Pedestrian Hit and Run Accident

There was a story in the paper today about a woman seriously injured in a Detroit pedestrian hit and run accident that occurred on Thursday, November 12 on Detroit’s west side. According to the Detroit police, a 20-year-old-woman exited a bus to cross West Parkway, near Joy Road, and was allegedly struck by a car that ran the red light at the intersection.

Witnesses stated that the driver, in a burgundy Taurus, stopped, went around the injured woman, stopped and looked then left the scene. No witnesses were able to get the license plate number of the car. Detroit Police are still investigating this accident and ask anybody who sees an older model burgundy Taurus, with damage to the passenger side, to call them.

Detroit Car Accident Reports

Detroit Car Accidents

Our Detroit accident lawyers represent clients who have been injured in a car accident, motorcycle accident, bus accident, truck accident, or pedestrian accident in the City of Detroit.

Also known as “The Motor City,” Detroit has a number of major highway and city streets in its jurisdiction.  As a result, a great number of auto accidents occur within the Detroit city limits.

Detroit Car Accident Reports

For any Detroit car accident or motor vehicle accident, it is necessary to obtain a traffic crash report from the police department.  These are required by insurance companies for making both property damage claims and personal injury claims.

It usally takes a few days after a Detroit accident to be available to the public, but a report can be obtained from:

Detroit Police Department
1300 Beaubien
Detroit, MI 48226
(313) 596-1800
Fax: (313) 596-6818

There is a fee for obtaining the report.  Checks should be made payable to “City of Detroit.”  We regularly obtain these for our Detroit car accident clients and pay all associated fees.

If your accident was investigated by the Michigan State Police, the report must be ordered directly from that agency.  You can download the Michigan State Police Form here and submit it directly to that agency to obtain your report.
