City of Detroit Wrongful Death Settlement – Bus Accident

A Detroit wrongful death settlement for $1.75 Million Dollars recently closed against the City of Detroit Department of Transportation and the bus driver involved in the accident. The bus accident occurred when an SUV holding many passengers lost a tire on Interstate 94. Several of the passengers exited the vehicle and were standing on the shoulder, when a bus, owned and operated by the City of Detroit, struck the vehicle as well as the passengers, killing one of them. The passenger killed was a husband and father to three children.

With the help of a witness, who was the investigating police officer and extended negotiations, the City of Detroit was found at fault even with The City of Detroit arguments that the bus accident was in fact not the bus drivers fault but the fault of the passengers and the driver of the incapacitated SUV.
